This is what winter should look like

Snow covered sidewalks
slippery underfoot
Snow banks as high as my knees
The landscape glistens
where street lights shine

This is what winter should look like

Muffled footsteps
on quiet evenings
Shadows stark on endless white
Pristine fields
and snow covered branches

This is what winter should look like

Evergreen trees and naked deciduous
Boughs laden with delicate weight
The slightest breath
brings a cold cascade

This is what winter should look like

Boisterous children
dressed for the cold
Families lace up their skates
Mitten and toques
on young and on old

This is what winter should look like
