Sometimes parenting is a thankless job. I’m not saying it’s not worth all the challenges that come along with it, but I know we have all had “those days.”
As moms (and dads) it’s our job to look after everyone. But it’s really nice when someone also looks after us. So I turned to my readers and asked them to share the best gift they’ve received (or given) as a parent.

My favorite gift I’ve given is getting a custom calendar made with photos of my baby. I started that annual gift right after my baby was born and gifted it to my parents as a huge thank you for coming out and staying with me and helping me with a newborn – which is the real gift.

I was given a VIP Wine Tour and Tasting for 10 last year for Christmas. Not only was I able to bring the kids (they didn’t count towards my 10!), it also forced me to contact my friends and family and have a really fun outing. (Staying in contact with people is not my strong suit!)

I love reading self-development books about mindset, business and life. One of the best gifts I received was a book from my husband, because it just showed that he took the time to think of something I would like.

Hands down the best gift I’ve received as a parent has been the gift of a weekend away with my husband. My parents have given us this gift the last few years for Christmas.
With three little kids, I can’t even begin to tell you how appreciated it is! It doesn’t have to be a costly gift either. The offer of childcare for a weekend is the best part of the gift – and doesn’t cost anything but the gift giver’s time (& energy!)

My hubby got me a travel mug for my coffee, which was super thoughtful. I drink out of a travel mug every day to keep my coffee hot and not spilled (Mom hack, lol!)

One of the best gifts I’ve ever received as a mom came from my younger daughter a couple of years ago when she was 12 or 13. She gave me a green basket (from the dollar store…bonus points in my book) filled with green items, along with a note that read, “If you weren’t my mom, I’d be green with envy.”
I loved the sweet sentiment of it. I loved that it was punny and creative. I loved that all the items in the basket were practical and that none of them required dusting. And most of all, I loved that the gift showed me how well my daughter knows me…that I like puns and the color green and practical things, for instance. Knowledge of the people in our lives and love for them are very often intertwined, and they surely were in this gift.

My parents usually give us a “date night” – a gift card for a restaurant and a home-made coupon for babysitting.
It’s not so much about the money or restaurant, but more the sentiment. I really appreciate that they actively facilitate our ability to go out with no worries. We live far away from them and date nights are rare. Mostly we can only do that during the holidays when we visit or they visit.
I would love to hear about the best gift you’ve given or received as a mom or dad. What made it so thoughtful? It means a lot to me when someone actually asks me what I would like – then manages to find it! Share your best gift in the comments, and maybe you’ll inspire a great gift for another mom.
